Vanha kaupunki - Kaleiçi - Old Town

Antalyan vanha kaupunki, Kaleiçi (kuten me kutsuimme sitä turkkilaisittain) on jättänyt meihin ehdottomasti suurimman jälkensä. Pienet, tunnelmalliset kujat iltahämärässä, turkkilainen musiikki ja turkin kielen sorina taustalla - taattua ja niin ihanaa Antalyaa! :-) Kaleiçilla on vietetty monet illanvietot ja tavattu paljon uusia, ihania ystäviä. Sieltä löytyy myös upea, suurehko basaari, josta on helppo löytää esim. tuliaisia kotiin vietäväksi. Amphiteatteri, Hadrianuksen portti (joka esitellään eri postauksessa), satama itsessään... niin paljon kaikkea, että tekeminen ei kyllä lopu kesken! 

Portaiden alku, joka johtaa syvemmälle Kaleiçin sydämeen 

Emme ala avaamaan Kaleiçin historiaa enempää, mutta haluamme esitellä meille tärkeimmät paikat ja antaa vinkkejä, mitä tehdä ja missä. Muutamia mainitsemisen arvoisia asioita meille tuli kuitenkin mieleen! Ensimmäiseksi voisi sanoa sen, että vanhaan kaupunkiin kannattaa tutustua eri päivinä ja eri aikaan päivästä - sen tunnelma muuttuu auringon liikkeiden mukaan! Päiväsaikaan alueella on varsinkin sesongin aikaan paljon perheitä ja pariskuntia, kun taas illan hämärtyessä nuoriso saapuu Kaleiçin kujille ja pubeihin nauttimaan ystävien seurasta. Huomioitavaa on se, että pankkiautomaatteja ei Kaleiçilla itsessään ole, joten jos käteistä haluaa käyttää, kannattaa ne nostaa etukäteen.

Toisena huomion arvoisena asiana kannattaa huomioida Kaleiçin ihanat kujat, jotka kuitenkin olivat meille vielä loppuajastakin vähän vaikeasti ymmärrettävät. Antalyalaiset itse tietävät kyllä, mihin mikäkin kuja johtaa, mutta meille ulkomaalaisille kujat tosiaan olivat melko sokkeloiset. Pieniä opasteita risteyksistä löytyy, mutta kannattaa varautua siihen, että Kaleiçin kujilta pois pääsy voi ottaa hieman aikaa. :-) Totta kai kannattaa kysellä mahdollisilta vastaantulijoilta reittiohjeita, mutta me itse (perinteiseen) suomalaiseen tyyliin yritimme itsenäisesti selvitä Kaleiçin alueelta pois. :-D 


Yhtenä vinkkinä viereisestä kuvasta: Kannattaa olla varovainen portaissa, jotka johtavat ns. ylös Kaleiçille, mistä löytyy mm. suosittu pubikuja. Portaat ovat erittäin liukkaat! 

Kellotorni!

Miten Kaleiçille sitten edes pääsee? Antalyan keskustassa on paljon opaskylttejä, joita seuraamalla pääsee Kaleiçin ns. "oviaukolle" ja itsessään Kaleiçin löytäminen on todella helppoa. Itse kävelimme yleensä keskustan läpi (eli sieltä, missä Mark Antalya sijaitsee) suoraan tälle aukiolle, jossa tunnusmerkkinä on Antalyan tunnettu nähtävyys, kellotorni, josta enemmän seuraavassa postauksessa. Kellotornin vieressä menee alaviistoon tie basaarille, jonka läpi voi kävellä kohti satamaa. Tämä on yksi helpoimmista reiteistä sinne.

Jos ei kuitenkaan halua altistua shoppailun houkutuksille, pääsee satamaan myös muuta kautta.  Keskustasta päin tultaessa ei jatketakkaan alas basaarille, vaan käännytäänkin oikealle. Kävelymatkaa tulee n. 500m, jolloin hissin pitäisi ilmestyä tien vasemmalle puolelle. Hissi laskeutuu suoraan alas satamaan. Jos hissiä ei kuitenkaan löydy, yksi hyvä keino on kysyä apua paikallisilta, koska ystävälliseen tapaan he kyllä tykkäävät auttaa.

Basaari & Satama

Basaarin tunnelma huokuu ihanaa turkkilaista alkuperää. Värikkäät matot, edulliset "merkki"vaatteet ja turkkilaisen teen tuoksu houkuttelevat matkailijan heti suorin tein basaarille. Kaleiçin basaari on mahtava paikka ja ihan missä päin tahansa Turkkia vierailee ja se on ehdottomasti yksi niistä paikoista, missä täytyy vierailla. 

Kuten kerroimme, basaarin läpi pääsee suoraan satamaan. Myös Mermerlin ranta (josta kerroimme edellisessä postauksessa) löytyy täältä. Satamassa on kiva vain kävellä ympäriinsä ja nauttia maisemista, istua amphiteatterilla muutaman virvokkeen kanssa, ostaa pientä purtavaa pikkumarketeista tai istua lähipubeihin nauttimaan vaikka olutta ja samalla jutella paikallisen pubin pitäjän kanssa. Kovan nälän tullessa ravintoloista toki löytyy ruokaa, mutta jos on tarkka raha-asioistaan kannattaa muistaa se, että satama on todellinen turistipaikka, mikä näkyy myös ruoan hinnoissa. Jos siis löytyy yhtään energiaa kavuta syvemmälle Kaleiçin sydämeen, se kyllä kannattaa.

Sataman Amfiteatteri

Me itse vietimme monesti alkuiltaa amphiteatterilla ystäviemme ja muutaman oluen kera ennen siirtymistä Kaleiçin pubeihin. Varsinkin sesongin aikaan amfiteatterilla istui paljon paikallista nuorisoa kitaroiden kanssa, ja turkin kieliset, heille tunnetut laulut raikasivat. Joskus jotkut villiintyivät jopa tanssimaan. :-) Tämä loi mahtavaa tunnelmaa sataman hämärään!

Kaleiçin kujat ovat täynnä pieniä pubeja kuten The Goblin Bar, Filika Cafe & Bar sekä Tudors Pub & Arena. Myös shottibaari Tektekci, Footloose ja Roadhouse tulivat meille tutuksi. :-) Meidän ehdoton suosikki oli kyllä The Goblin Bar, joka on heti kuuluisien, liukkaiden portaiden yläpäässä. 

Pikkumarketit ovat Kaleiçilla todella myöhään auki varsinkin sesongin aikaan ja niistä löytyy yleensä kaikki tarvittava. Alkoholia Turkissa on laillista myydä marketeissa kello 22 saakka.

Hıdırlık torni

Hıdırlık torni on Karaalioglu puiston ja Kaleiçin "välissä". :-D Meillä oli tämänkin paikan löytäminen hirmu vaikeaa aika ajoittain, joten emme oikein osaa kunnolla selittää, miten tänne löytää. Kartta kuitenkin havainnollistaa melko hyvin, missä päin torni on. Tornihan on siis ihan Välimeren rannalla, ja sieltä onkin upeat maisemat Konyaaltılle päin! Aamupäivällä/päivällä puitteet oleskeluun tornin lähettyvillä ovat mahtavat! Myös selfieiden onnistuminen on taattu näissä maisemissa. ;-)

Iltavalaistuksessa rannikon teiden valot piirtyvät kauniisti horisonttiin ja ajan voi unohtaa vain seuraamalla niitä. Kavereiden seurasta nauttiminen muutaman oluen kera, näissä maisemissa - çok güzel!!

Hıdırlık tornilta onkin luonnollista jatkaa matkaa sitten Karaalioglu puistoon, mikä on upean vehreä ja kauniita kasveja täynnä. Kaleiçilla kiertelyn jälkeen onkin mukava vaihtaa maisemaa puistoon ja hengähtää vaikka nurmikolla auringosta nauttien.

Karaalioglu puisto

Karaalioglu puisto on vierailemisen arvoinen kohde jälleen kerran maisemiensa takia. Antalyasta ei siis oikeasti upeita maisemia puutu! Puisto on suurehko, ja hyvä paikka pysähtyä nauttimaan säästä vehreässä ympäristössä. Puisto on oiva paikka vain kävellä ympäriinsä ja no, tehdä asioita mitä puistoissa yleensä tehdään, haha. :-D Merituuli viilentää mukavasti puistossa ja siksipä se onkin viileämpi paikka nauttia päivästä vaikka Kaleiçilla vierailun jälkeen!

Itse kävelimme useamman kerran vain puiston läpi, emmekä viettäneet aikaa sen enempää täällä. Puiston ympäristöstä löytyy myös kivoja pikku terasseja ja näissä paikoissa kannattaakin nauttia perinteistä turkkilaista teetä, çayta. :-P

Tässä tulikin nyt jo muutama Kaleiçin/Kaleiçilla olevista nähtävyyksistä, joten onkin luonnollista esitellä seuraavassa postauksessa muitakin Antalyan nähtävyyksiä. :-) Seuraavaan kertaan, tamam Görüşürüz!

Antalya’s Old Town, Kaleiçi, (like we call it, in a turkish way ;-)) has a huge place in our hearts! Tiny, atmospheric alleys in twilight, Turkish music and Turkish language on the backround – so wonderful Antalya! We have spent many evenings in Kaleiçi and got to know many new, lovely friends there! There is also a gorgeous, quite big bazaar where you can find for example some cute souvenirs. Amphitheater, Hadrian’s gate (which we will presentate in next post), the harbor itself… So much to see and visit!

We are not going to dig deeper Kaleiçi’s history, but we want to introduce the places which are the most important for us and we also want to give some tips, what to do and where. Anyways, couple things are worth of mentioning so here they are! At first we recommend to explore Kaleiçi on different days and different times of the day – it’s atmosphere changes according to the movements of the sun! During the day time families and couples are exploring the Kaleiçi area, whereas after sunset the youngsters and friend groups are coming to Kaleiçi’s alleys and pubs to enjoy the night. Pay attention to the fact that in Kaleiçi there isn’t (or wasn’t) any ATM’s, so if you want to use cash, you should withdraw it beforehand.

Another notable thing is that the lovely alleys at Kaleiçi are pretty labyrintish! We were lost couple times in there also. :-D People from Antalya knows exactly where each alley leads, but for us foreigners it wasn’t that simple. There are also some guide signs on the way, but prepare yourself for that fact that getting away from Kaleiçi can take some time. Of course you could (and you should!) ask some directions from passersby, but the traditional finnish way is not to ask any directions from anyone, haha.

So how to get to Kaleiçi at all? There is a lot of guide signs in Antalya’s center and if you follow them carefully, you will reach Kaleiçi’s “doorway”. It is pretty easy to find Kaleiçi after all. We usually walked there through city center (where’s MarkAntalya) straight to the “doorway”, where is the clock tower as a landmark. There is a road going downwards next to the clock tower and you can walk through the bazaar straight to the harbor. This is one of the easiest route there.

If you don’t want to be exposed to the temptations of shopping, there is also another route to the harbor. When you are coming from the city center you will not continue down to the bazaar, but you will turn right. You will walk app. 500m and soon there will be an elevator in the left side of the road. The elevator will go straight down to the harbor. If you can not find the elevator, again one good way is to ask help from locals because in a friendly, Turkish way, they like to help!

Bazaar & Harbor

You can sense the marvelous, Turkish atmosphere when you enter the Kaleiçi’s bazaar. Colorful carpets, affordable “brand”clothes and the smell of Turkish çay is tempting the traveler straight away to the bazaar. Kaleiçi’s bazaar is an awesome place and it doesn’t matter where in Turkey you are travelling, you have to visit at least one bazaar.

Like we told earlier, you can easily access to harbor if you walk through the bazaar. Also Mermerli’s beach is here. In harbor, it is pleasant to walk around and enjoy the views, sit in the amphitheater with some soft drinks, buy something small to eat from little markets or sit in the pub nearby and chit chat with the pub’s owner. If you start to feel very hungry there are several restaurants, but if you are pretty strict with your money you should remember that the harbor is an actual tourist center, which you can see from the prices of the meals. So if you want to have cheaper meals, you should definitely walk out from the tourist zone.

We spent a lot time at the amphitheater with our friends and couple beers before moving to Kaleiçi’s pubs. Especially during the season, the amphitheater was crowded and full of local youngsters with guitars there. They were singing familiar Turkish songs and some of them were even dancing there! It really created a lovely atmosphere to the harbor’s dusk. 

From the harbour you find big stairs which lead to popular pub street.Our favourite pubs at Kaleiçi were The Goblin Bar, Filika Café & Bar and Tudors Pub & Arena. Also we got familiar with the shot bar Tektekci. :-D Kaleiçi’s alleys were full of small pubs and bars, (Footloose, Roadhouse) but our unconditional favourite was The Goblin Bar.

The small markets in Kaleiçi were open really late, especially during the season. It is legal to sell alcohol until 22 o’clock.

Hıdırlık tower

Hıdırlık tower is between Karaalioglu park and Kaleiçi. For us, finding this place was a little bit difficult so we are not 100 % sure how to get there. Anyways, the map is showing pretty clearly where the tower is. The Hıdırlık tower is next to Mediterranean coast and the views are pretty spectacular! Also you can have really cool selfies there. ;-)

During the evening, the lights of roads next to the coast are looking really beautiful and you can forget the fact that time exists, just by watching that view. Couple friends, beers, these views -  çok güzel!!

It is natural to continue the way from Hıdırlık tower to Karaalioglu park, which is super green and full of beautiful plants. After a Kaleiçi tour it is pretty nice to change the landscape, sit down to the park and just breathe while enjoying the sun.

Karaalioglu park is definitely worth of visiting, again because of its landscapes. The truth is that Antalya honestly has several, really gorgeous landscapes! The park is kinda big and a really good place for stop by. It is a really suitable place for walking around and, well, just for the same things what you normally do in the park. :-D Karaalioglu park is a little bit cooler place because of the sea breeze, so it is definitely a good place to relax for example after walking around at Kaleiçi!

We walked through the park several times but we didn’t spent any actual time there. Around the park there are also several cute little terraces and one thing what we definitely recommend to drink in these places is the Turkish tea, çay. :-P

Here were couple attractions from Kaleiçi (or nearby Kaleiçi), so it is natural for us to introduce other Antalya’s attractions in a next post! See you next time, tamam Görüşürüz!
